The number of farmers increased by 6.1% in 2025/ Statistics show more active

The number of businesses in Albania continued to grow during 2025, reflecting the expansion of economic activity in the country. According to data published by the Institute of Statistics, at the end of 2025, there were approximately 250 thousand enterprises in Albania, an increase of 5.1% compared to 2024.

In parallel with businesses, the number of farmers has also increased. Data shows that at the end of 2025 there were almost 112 thousand farmers, or 6.1% more than a year earlier. Meanwhile, the number of active economic enterprises reached about 138 thousand, marking an annual increase of 4.3%.

The year 2025 also proved to be more dynamic in terms of new business creation. During the year, around 18 thousand new enterprises were registered, up from almost 16 thousand that were registered in 2024. This indicates a significant increase in entrepreneurship and interest in investments in the economy.

The register of local units has also expanded, with 4% more active units compared to last year. According to statistics, around 136 thousand enterprises operate in a single location, while more than 1,800 enterprises operate in more than one location, indicating a higher degree of organization and expansion of economic activity.

The structure of the Albanian economy continues to be dominated by the service sector. Around 85.9% of active enterprises operate in the trade, transport, accommodation, communication and other services sectors, generating 68.2% of net sales in the economy. On the other hand, the group of goods producers, which includes agriculture, industry and construction, represents 14.1% of active enterprises, but generates 31.8% of net sales.

Women’s participation in entrepreneurship has continued to increase. In 2025, women owned or managed 31.6% of active enterprises, up from 31.4% the year before. The highest presence of women in leadership positions is observed in the trade and other services sectors, where they represent 34.3% and 41.2% of decision-makers, respectively. The majority of enterprises run by women are small businesses with 1 to 4 employees.

Meanwhile, large businesses remain the main pillar of employment and economic turnover. Although enterprises with 50 or more employees represent only 1.5% of the total, they employ 48.6% of all employees and generate 44.8% of annual net sales in the country.

These data show that the Albanian economy continues to rely on the growth of entrepreneurship, the expansion of economic activity, and the gradual strengthening of the role of women and foreign investors in business.
