Belgium confirms opening of embassy in Tirana - Prévot: Albania is successfully advancing towards the EU

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, Maxime Prévot, has praised Albania's progress in the European integration process, while simultaneously announcing that Belgium will open its embassy in Tirana, as evidence of the strengthening of relations between the two countries.
Following his meeting in Brussels with Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha, Prévot shared his positive message on social media about Albanian-Belgian cooperation. He recalled Hoxha's early connection with the Belgian capital, where he previously served as Albania's ambassador.
The Belgian chief diplomat emphasized that the opening of the Belgian embassy in Tirana represents a concrete step towards expanding bilateral cooperation and an indicator of the appreciation that Brussels places on relations with Albania.
Prévot also welcomed Albania's receipt of the IBAR report, describing it as an important milestone on the path to EU membership. According to him, this development places the country in the final phase of negotiations and demonstrates the progress achieved in the reform process.
However, he underlined that work must continue at the same pace, especially in strengthening the rule of law, guaranteeing the independence of the judicial system and fighting corruption. According to Prévot, the accession process is based on merit and Albania is showing that it is able to meet the required standards.
During the talks, the two ministers also addressed issues related to cooperation in the fields of justice, security and the fight against organized crime. The focus was also on Albania's role in maintaining regional stability and cooperation in the Western Balkans.
In conclusion, Prévot expressed interest in visiting Tirana next year, when the Belgian embassy in Albania is expected to be officially inaugurated.
