Albanians prefer mobile numbers with a contract - AKEP: Subscribers who request postpaid are increasing. Even internet at home, a record

Albanians are increasingly choosing mobile phone numbers with a contract term of 1 to 2 years, while prepaid packages are being chosen less and less. According to the latest data from the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority (AKEP), despite 52% of subscribers paying for short-term phone packages and 48% for long-term ones, this gap has narrowed compared to the first quarter of 2025, where subscribers with a contract were only 44.5% and those without a contract were 55.5%.
Despite the fact that most Albanian families have an internet connection at home, and almost every workplace has one, this has not replaced the internet, minutes, and SMS on the phone, as they are used outdoors, where other alternatives such as public WIFI are almost non-existent.
In terms of internet connections at home or in a business, the figures confirm an increase of 6.5% compared to the first quarter of last year. Around 410 thousand users or in other words 58% of subscribers with broadband access on fixed networks have installed internet only at home.
On the other hand, integrated packages are less preferred. About 42% or 295 thousand subscribers use integrated packages (Internet/TV/Phone). Paying for Internet and TV through a single package is seen as an alternative by a smaller number of people. The use of integrated packages that include phone, the triple packages “Internet+TV+Phone” and the packages “Internet+Phone”, resulted in a decrease of 6.4% and 5.2% respectively compared to the first quarter of 2025.
Meanwhile, landline telephony continues its downward trend. Only a limited number of businesses continue to use landline telephony in Albania.
