From storage to auto consumers - Government approves new energy bill, Karakaçi: We will receive funding from the EU

The government has approved the new draft law for the regulation of the electricity sector, an initiative that aims to adapt the Albanian market to new technological developments and the legal framework of the European Union. After the government meeting, the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enea Karakaçi, described the draft law as a transformative reform for the sector.
"First, in terms of regulating the electricity sector, it introduces Albania to a completely new concept, introducing and providing for other definitions and elements that were not in the previous law, such as storage, or new forms, aggregation for self-consumers, which are of great interest to all citizens and businesses, but also to the entire regulation of the energy sector, introducing it to the new phase where Albania is located," said Karakaçi.
Another important element, according to the minister, is the connection of the draft law to the European integration process.
"The second element that is also very important for this draft law on the electricity sector is the European integration component. The draft law on the electricity sector was an obligation of Albania within the framework of European integration, but not only that, it was also an obligation within the framework of the Groëth Plan or growth plan, where with its approval Albania will also receive financial assistance from the European Union", - he said.
During his speech, Karakaçi also announced the approval of a new photovoltaic project with a capacity of 96 MW, considering it as another indicator of the transformation that the energy sector in the country is undergoing.
