Albanian exports, Italy loses ground/ Kosovo and Germany gain weight to the total in the first 4 months of the year

The structure of Albanian exports has undergone changes during the first quarter of 2026, indicating an expansion of partner markets and a gradual decrease in dependence on Italy, which nevertheless continues to remain the main destination of Albanian goods.
Data show that during the period January-April 2026, Italy absorbed about 38.9% of Albanian exports, down from 42.9% a year earlier. Although it remains the largest trading partner, its share in total exports has shrunk by 4 percentage points compared to the same period in 2025.
At the same time, the weight of several other markets has increased. Kosovo strengthened its position as the second most important partner, increasing its share from 9.6% to 10.7% of Albanian exports. Germany also recorded growth, going from 6.7% to 7.9%, while China rose to 4%, entering among the partners with the greatest weight in Albanian exports.
On the other hand, Greece recorded a slight decrease in its share, from 6.6% to 3.3%, while Spain also lost ground, dropping from 5.3% to 2.7%. Meanwhile, the United States also appeared on the list of main partners, with around 2.3% of total exports.
Overall, the data suggest that Albanian exports are gradually being spread across more markets, reducing the concentration on a single partner. However, Italy continues to remain the main pillar of Albanian exports, with a share that remains close to 40% of the total.
