Windows makes a strong comeback in Albania/ iOS remains the leader, while Android records the biggest decline

The Albanian technology market is going through an interesting period of change, as user preferences for operating systems have shifted significantly over the past year. Data for the period May 2025 – May 2026 shows that iOS continues to hold the top position in the country, but the rapid growth of Windows is changing the market balance.
According to statistics, in May 2026, iOS owned 32.94% of the operating system market in Albania. Although Apple's platform remains at the top, its market share has fluctuated significantly in recent months, indicating that competition has become stronger than before.
The most notable development of the year is the growth of Windows. From around 12% in mid-2025, Microsoft's operating system reached 27% in May. In some months of the year, it even temporarily surpassed Android and came significantly closer to iOS. This growth indicates an increasing use of computers and laptops in the country, especially for work, studies and professional activities.
Meanwhile, Android has lost a significant share of the market. From the nearly 39% it held a year ago, its share has dropped to 25.46% in May. Although it remains one of the main platforms in Albania, the trend of the last year shows that users are increasingly oriented towards other alternatives.
At the lower end are OS X at 6.73%, systems categorized as "Unknown" at 5.83%, and macOS at 1.22%. Although these platforms represent a smaller share of the market, they continue to have a solid presence in their specific segments.
The figures suggest that the Albanian technology market is becoming increasingly fragmented and competitive. If until a few years ago the dominance of Android was more pronounced, today users seem to be more spread out between different ecosystems. The growing interest in Apple devices and the greater use of Windows computers are creating a new digital landscape in the country.
