Albania seeks role in EU strategic chains/ Industrial Strategy aims at processing chrome, nickel and copper

Critical raw materials could become one of Albania's most important assets in the process of economic integration with the European Union. The National Industrial Strategy 2026–2030 highlights that the country possesses commercially significant reserves of chromium, nickel and copper, which are considered part of the critical and strategic raw materials for the European Union.
This potential positions Albania not only as a beneficiary of European funds and programs, but also as a contributor to the EU's security of supply. At a time when Europe seeks to diversify its sources and reduce dependence on distant markets, Albania could have a more important role in the processing of materials and the development of regional industrial chains.
The strategy foresees that the processing of raw materials and the deepening of value chains will be treated as part of priority industrial ecosystems. This means that the aim is not only to extract minerals, but to increase processing within the country, create more added value and include Albanian companies in European supply chains.
For the Albanian economy, this translates into opportunities for new investments, more advanced technology and more productive jobs. But the challenge remains in formalization, environmental standards, processing capacities and securing financing for industrial projects that can compete at the European level.
