"Major changes in mobile contracts" - Biba: We will request the

Serious changes are expected soon in citizens' contracts with mobile companies. This was stated by the Chairman of the Competition Authority, Denar Biba, in the Parliamentary Committee on Economy, Employment and Finance. When asked about a possible agreement between mobile companies on price indexation according to inflationary pressures, Biba emphasized that indexation is foreseen in the previous contracts that citizens have signed.

"To my knowledge, only one of the companies has forced this, only One, not Vodafone. In the relevant contracts that citizens have signed, among them certainly us who are customers of One, in the relevant contract that we have signed, you, me, our family members who are customers of the One company, it is clearly foreseen, albeit in those small letters, on 3-4 pages, that none of us read, for better or worse, that the company has the right to index prices in the event of increasing inflationary pressures in the market", said the Chairman of the Competition Authority.

Given that the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority is the regulatory authority of the telephony market that approves contracts and the Competition Authority is only a controller, there are expected to be administrative clashes regarding the changes that are expected to be made.

"With the next decision that we will take, there will be serious changes in the relevant contracts that these companies will present to Albanian consumers. We will consequently also request a fine, hypothetically, I hope not, that some of these formulas in the current contracts of One or Vodafone for this issue or for other issues, be reformulated by the company. But keep in mind that those contracts are approved by the sectoral regulator and we are also in a clash of an administrative nature,"  he said.

The Competition Authority has long opened a preliminary investigation into the retail mobile services market, while also calling on citizens to share their complaints, issues or concerns regarding this market.
