From strategy to implementation, the challenge of Albanian industry - Competitiveness, Zekja: A concrete package for business is needed

The growth of the manufacturing industry and the transition to a more value-added model is seen as one of the main objectives of the National Industrial Strategy 2026–2030. But for experts, the challenge lies not only in drafting strategies, but in implementing them in practice and in the concrete support that must be given to business.
Florjan Zekja Coordinator of "Pro-Export Albania"
"Two strategies are needed. The strategy of saving or stopping this problem, and also that of integration. In the integration strategy, we are dealing with increasing the added value of the product, raising standards in the management of our businesses, as well as increasing the standard of the products we have, where all these challenges are challenges that the business must face in addition to the strategic side, but also with a very high cost which at the moment it is foreseen that the business itself must bear."
In this context, one of the most important issues remains the support that the private sector should receive. Zekja emphasizes that businesses do not necessarily require direct financial assistance, but a complete package of measures that would help them become more competitive in a shorter period of time.

"More than funding, there is a need for a strategy, which we have announced since 2021. A strategy that the government has supported in 2022, some elements of this strategy, packages and has placed in the budget, but they have not been implemented. They are not talking about financial assistance, but a package of measures that in the complex can lead to a relatively short period, but lead to competitiveness."
For the Albanian industry, the main challenge remains the transition from low-cost production to products with higher quality, standards and value. But this transformation requires investments, technology, certifications and improved business management.
