Albanians, increasingly online/ Strong digital infrastructure, but the challenge remains affordability

Albania is increasingly consolidating its position in the digital era, according to the latest Mobile Connectivity Index assessment by GSMA Intelligence, which measures the main factors influencing the use and development of mobile internet.
According to data published for 2025, Albania has achieved an overall score of 72.21 points, reflecting a good level of mobile connectivity and technology use.
One of the country's strongest points is Consumer Readiness, where Albania received a score of 87.14 points. This indicator is related to citizens' ability to use technology, digital knowledge and willingness to benefit from online services.
Mobile internet infrastructure also ranks high, with a score of 80.12 points, indicating the development of mobile networks and the spread of internet access through mobile devices.
Meanwhile, affordability of mobile internet remains a challenge, with Albania scoring 64.72 points. This indicator measures how easily citizens can afford internet services compared to their income and shows that there is still room to make digital access cheaper.
The lowest score is recorded in the "Content and Services" category, with 60.17 points, signaling the need for more development of online services, local applications and digital content that promote internet use.
At a time when the economy, education, and public services are increasingly moving online, these indicators show that Albania has made important steps in building a more connected society, but the next challenge remains for technology to be not only available, but also more affordable and more useful for citizens.
