Works on the Elbasan-Qafë Thanë road/ ARRSH: The first 7.5 km with two crossings will be opened within June

The first 7.5 km segment of the Elbasan - Qafë Thanë road of Corridor VIII is expected to be opened for two-way traffic within June. According to the Albanian Road Authority, of the eight contracts that make up this axis, one has been fully completed, while work is ongoing to close the second phase.
Currently, traffic is only carried out on one side of the road, while the expropriations recently approved by the government are expected to enable the full opening of traffic on the first segment.
In parallel, it is announced that the majority of the works in the current lots are expected to be completed by the end of 2026, while the full completion of all eight phases of the project is targeted by December 2027.
In parallel, during this year, the implementation of a new contract, known as the ninth phase, is expected to begin, which includes the Hotoloshti tunnel and which will provide a final solution to the problems created in this village. This is because the previous project divided the village into 2 parts, which also brought opposition from the residents of the area. According to ARRSH, this intervention is considered one of the most important works of the project, as it avoids the impacts that the construction of the road would have on the surface and addresses the demands of the community and local businesses.
Corridor VIII is one of the largest infrastructure investments in the country and aims to connect Albanian ports with North Macedonia and further with the European transport network.
