"Integration enters the most demanding phase" - Rama with the President of the Council of Europe: It is necessary to start closing the chapters

Prime Minister Edi Rama received this Tuesday the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa. During his speech at the joint press conference, the head of the Albanian government said that the integration process is challenging, but must continue at the same pace to meet the conditions.
"And we also fully share with the president the belief that the main part of our work here remains our work. Which means we have tasks to fulfill, not for the sake of Brussels, or Berlin, or Paris, but for the sake of improving the performance of the state, of the institutions, of the independent powers in Albania and of course now at this stage the main emphasis is the implementation of those reforms that have been successfully carried out or of all these laws that will continue to enter the body of the legal organism of Albania from the "acquis communautaire" or the legal body of the EU.
"Of course, it is a process with many challenges. The President has rightly suggested that we increase efforts to familiarize the general public with all these challenges that accompany every step we take forward ," said Rama.
Meanwhile, the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, assessed Albania's progress and the fulfillment of intermediate milestones for the fundamental chapters.
"Last week, as confirmed, also at the intergovernmental conference, we saw Albania's progress and Albania has in fact met the interim milestones for the first chapter group on the issue of the "Foundations".
This shows that the member states have understood and appreciated Albania's commitment to continue and move forward further in its membership and journey, that is, towards the EU, and this is the beginning of a new phase, another phase that is challenging, which will focus on the issue of implementation and on the history that Albania will have. So EU membership is much more than simply being part of a single market. It means becoming part of a political union, which is built on the basis of some common values and important strategic choices", said Costa.
During the conference, Rama was asked about the Zvërnec issue, to which he said that Albania will not say 'no' to a major project, with investors who will bring a 4 billion euro project to the country.
