Natural gas, the way is opened for small plants - ERE initiates changes to the licensing regulation, new activities are added to the sector

The Energy Regulatory Authority has initiated the procedure for amending the regulation that determines the procedures and deadlines for licensing activities in the natural gas sector. The decision aims to adapt the regulatory framework to the amendments made to the law "On the natural gas sector", including new activities that were not previously foreseen in the regulation.
The main changes relate to the introduction of new licensing categories for the operation of small-sized Liquefied Natural Gas and Compressed Natural Gas plants. The new regulation also provides new definitions for these plants, market operator, system users and operating activities, and details the technical, financial, environmental and safety requirements that applicant entities must meet.
A few days ago, ERE also initiated procedures for the approval of standard licenses for the operation of small-sized liquefied natural gas and compressed natural gas plants, at a time when the Albanian government is promoting the idea of creating a gas hub in Vlora.
More specifically, these developments follow the signing of the Memorandum for the development of the Vlora energy hub and the Framework Agreement for the supply of liquefied natural gas, in close cooperation with the United States, as well as concrete interaction with Greece. The government has articulated the ambition to turn the area into a regional gas hub, building on the existing infrastructure of the TAP pipeline, the liquefied gas terminal project and the use of the Vlora TEC.
