New career after 30, a trend that is gaining ground - Experts: Professional

Once considered a difficult and risky decision, today, changing careers after the age of 30 or 40 is becoming an increasingly common phenomenon. The job market is transforming at a rapid pace, and many professionals are choosing to retrain to pursue new career opportunities.

"They are from different sectors and professions. It is true that the age group between 30-40 falls into that category of professionals who have already created a comprehensive employment and training experience. From where they invest more to qualify with new skills. This is taken in terms of their personal and professional development. The sectors we see the most are those of banking, human resources, information engineering, cybersecurity, digital marketing, from where we see transformations of corporate life and other professions ," said Anisa Kerri, Employment Expert.

But how much do employers value the previous experience of a candidate coming from another field?

"It is those progressive employers who make such an assessment, taking into account that a professional with a certain amount of experience does not start from scratch but only becomes more and more skilled, and there is a change in the earliest 10-year-olds, where they were more skeptical about changes in both sectors and professions. This has now been mitigated and it is seen that the transfer of experiences in different sectors is more beneficial not only for the individual but also for the employer. Therefore, there are companies that value this type of change, and are invested in being more acceptable and getting the best out of these professionals," said Marsi Simo, sociologist .

According to sociologist Marsi Simo, the labor market has become more flexible and individuals are freer to experiment with their careers. Hybrid work, freelancing, and the desire for more income or personal satisfaction have led many people to change professional directions even in adulthood.

" That it may be a little more important that has come, that a person can change certain aspects of life, here also in the professional aspect, in terms of his choice, in terms of how he will further build his career. Unlike before, where an economic system was controlled, after the '90s, but mainly in the last 10 years, the rules in the labor market have changed, they have become more dynamic. Here I can also connect it with the family aspect, if before it was the family that influenced and passed on as a form of professional inheritance, not that now this advice no longer happens, we are talking about career or profession, but it has less impact because young people today are more individualistic and think that they can choose for themselves how they want to be embraced in the labor market. And why not, change it completely, perhaps to go to a different or opposite profession.

And also the pandemic played an important role in the labor market in terms of how this work was seen, which is not only carried out physically, but can be carried out in a hybrid form or even what are now called many freelancing professions that you can live in a certain place in the world, you can work for an Albanian or foreign company. Here why not and for more freedom they call it those who are involved in this type of work, and for more income, because freelancer allows you to work two or even three jobs, this according to schedules and part-time opportunities.

And on the other hand, this dynamic of the labor market also brings concerns. Flexibility, this society that is subject to both the way, not easily adapting to the identification of groups, but also changing frequently, this brings an increase in anxiety, an increase in the mindset that I should already be prepared to always have another backup plan if my first plan does not work out. But still, the labor market can bring many surprises, but that people should focus mainly on soft skills. I think that they will never, will never lose their value. Soft skills mean the way you manage emotions, how you overcome challenges, which we say is the ability of resilience, so a challenge, a promotion or a demotion, a layoff, a move to another sector. You can cope with all these small challenges very well when you have worked and have these types of skills before. The way you communicate, how you manage a group work, how you present your work. And all of these are skills that I say will help, will help anyone. The one who works in an office, the one who is an engineer, the one who deals with numbers, the one who deals with people directly or not.

Another characteristic has to do with education. The university was previously seen as the main center of knowledge or intelligence or the intellectual part, whereas in recent years the university is no longer seen as the main center, or it is no longer seen as that source of knowledge or source of employment, because perhaps shorter paths have been found to get employed faster, such as vocational schools, which were previously seen with prejudice, now vocational schools are seen as a bridge connecting immediately to the labor market also because of the professional practices that have been done in recent years, or training that can be six months, a year and you can immediately earn this income. And after you have accumulated this income and after you have managed, why not through courses, these people think about opening their own business to be independent. And this rule has been mostly imposed on us by Generation Z, because they themselves, from the way they have lived and formed their character, unlike previous generations, are not flexible themselves... they are not rigid, I would say in a job market, they cannot work for more than maybe 10 years in one place, in one sector. So, they see this as a renewal, they see this as a pleasure, not only to receive income and money in a job, but to also receive pleasure and give it... and to see opportunities to grow in their position and to receive other assessments which, if they do not see, do not accept, cannot make those compromises that previous generations have made, and they want to change jobs."
