Elbasan-Lekaj road, 3 new contracts - ARRSH: We aim to sign within the year, plans for the remaining 21 km

The Albanian Road Authority aims to sign 3 new contracts for the construction of Corridor VIII, in the direction from Elbasan to Lekaj, within this year. According to this department, the contracts have been foreseen in this year's budget, enabling the continuation of the works, with the aim of connecting the new road with the Adriatic - Ionian Highway. Meanwhile, 3 other contracts remain to be signed, which will complete the segment and according to the ARRSH forecasts, their signing is expected at the end of 2027.
The work deadlines will be 24 months for each contract, which means that according to normal predictability within 2029, this part of Corridor VIII should be completed.
The Elbasan–Lekaj road axis runs through the lowland of the Shkumbini River valley from the city of Elbasan to the vicinity of its mouth. It passes through the regions of Elbasan (Bradashesh, Shirgjan, Gjegjan, Cërrik, Papër), Peqin (Pajovë, Shez, Gjocaj, Peqin, Karinë) and Kavajë (Sinaballaj, Rrogozhinë). Currently, work is being carried out in 6 lots on this segment, covering about 20 km, out of a total of 40.7 km. This means that the 6 other contracts to be signed will cover the construction of the remaining 21 km.
Meanwhile, referring to the deadline of the signed contracts, the first 20 kilometers are expected to be completed in December of this year. The authorities have considered this deadline achievable.
