Transparency Board sets new fuel prices
The Transparency Board has set new ceiling prices for fuel trading in the country this Tuesday, May 27, 2026. According to the decision taken at the next meeting, diesel will be traded at retail for no more than 190 lek per liter, while at wholesale for no more than 178 lek per liter.
Meanwhile, the ceiling price of gasoline has been set at 179 lek per liter in retail sales and 167 lek per liter in wholesale sales.
The board announced that the new prices came into effect today, May 27, at 1:30 p.m. and will remain in effect until the next meeting, where possible market changes will be reflected.
The authorities have drawn the attention of wholesale and retail operators to the mandatory implementation of this decision, while warning that in case of violations, the suspension of activity will be applied.
The announcement states that the Ministry of Economy and Innovation, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy remain committed to protecting consumers and ensuring fair competition in the market.
In an official clarification, it is announced that the current prices are below the limits set by Normative Act No. 1, dated April 3, 2026, the excise duty level is reduced to 80% only in cases where the price of diesel exceeds 220 lek per liter or gasoline 200 lek per liter. Given that the currently set prices are below these limits, the excise duty will continue to be applied in full, at the rate of 100%.
