The automatic process of erasing tax fines is completed - Over 105 thousand businesses benefit
The Tax Administration has completed the automatic process of writing off and extinguishing unpaid tax liabilities, in accordance with the law on the writing off and repayment of central and local tax liabilities, as well as customs liabilities.
According to official data, a total of 105,409 taxpayers have benefited from this measure, while the total value of forgiven obligations amounts to around 91.6 million euros.
Of this amount, approximately 70.5 million euros constitute administrative fines imposed by tax inspectors for unpaid obligations related to periods up to December 31, 2014, with accounting records up to the end of 2024. 13,667 taxpayers have benefited from this category.
Meanwhile, 21.1 million euros belong to other administrative fines, including penalties for late submission of tax returns, related to periods until December 31, 2024 and registration until June 30, 2026. In this group, 96,302 taxpayers have benefited.
The Tax Administration clarifies that the benefit is applied only to cases where tax returns have the status "submitted".
Taxpayers convicted by a final court decision, as well as those under investigation or trial for criminal offenses in the tax and customs fields, are excluded from the process. Also, cases where there is a court decision in favor of the Tax Administration are not included.
This process comes after the completion of the automatic compensation of credit surpluses with unpaid liabilities and is considered by the administration as an important step in the implementation of Law No. 86/2025, with the aim of increasing transparency and equal treatment of taxpayers.
