Prime Minister Rama in Rome: There is nothing to worry about Zvërnec, the

Prime Minister Edi Rama has participated in the Future Investment Initiative (FII) World Forum taking place in Rome. In a conversation with Eleni Giokos, CNN presenter and correspondent, Rama also spoke about the Zvërnec project, emphasizing that the project will be carried out and that it will add value and greenery to the Lagoon.

Below is an excerpt from the Rama-Giokos conversation:

Question from Eleni Giokos: Mr. Prime Minister, has the land been purchased by investors?

Prime Minister Edi Rama: Listen, don't come in here because now you're actually reminding me that you're from CNN and I'm sorry to say that I've learned the hard way that you're not an objective source. But since you're Greek, I feel compelled to come in here.

Yes, the land was purchased by investors, it is private land.

Yes, an environmental impact assessment is being carried out.

Yes, there is no approved project.

Yes, there is no building permit yet. There is nothing to worry a right-thinking environmentalist, and yes, there is nothing to protect.

Question from Eleni Giokos: Mr. Prime Minister, very recently the European Commission has warned that you must respect environmental rules and at the same time you also have the problem of protests. How will you change the message to resonate with the protests and the protesters so that they are on your side?

Prime Minister Edi Rama: I have news for you. The majority of the Albanian people love the project. Where the project will be developed is a city where the vast majority are eagerly awaiting the project and there is no protest. The community where this development will take place loves the project. So, what you see is not exactly what is happening. There is outrage, I understand, but it will soon fade and when I send a very special invitation to CNN to come for the opening, everyone will be happy and I am sure that it will be a great chance for CNN to redeem itself.

Question from Eleni Giokos: Pay it off?

Prime Minister Edi Rama: Yes, if you repay it, you have to repay Albania and the Albanian people, even the birds. You need a moment to repay yourself. Because the birds, the water, the trees and everything else will be much better than it is today. The project aims to have a net positive with 25 percent more greenery than today. Today the lagoon waters are polluted and in fact we are conceiving another system so that the waters are completely clean again, as you say in the USA.
