How many vehicles were circulating in Albania at the beginning of 2026? German

The number of road vehicles in Albania continues to grow at a steady pace, exceeding the figure of 1 million in the first quarter of 2026. According to official data, a total of 1,068,251 vehicles were registered in circulation, an increase of 9.3% compared to the same period last year, which reflects the expansion of the automobile fleet and the increased use of individual transport in the country.

The vehicle structure remains dominated by cars, which account for 80.7% of the total, confirming the high dependence of citizens on personal cars. Motorcycles account for 6.2%, while mixed transport vehicles represent 5.8%, indicating a moderate diversification of vehicles in circulation.

The geographical distribution continues to be concentrated mainly in urban and economic areas. Tirana holds the largest share with 34.7% of the funds at the national level, reflecting the high population density and economic activity. Durrës ranks second with 13.6%, while regions such as Gjirokastra and Kukës remain at the bottom of the list with 2.1% and 2.4% of the total, respectively.

Meanwhile, the new vehicle market continues to be active. In the first three months of the year alone, almost 22 thousand vehicles were registered for the first time, an increase of 8.7% compared to the previous year. In this regard, Tirana also leads convincingly with 42.3% of new registrations, indicating a concentration of demand in the capital.

In terms of consumer preferences, German brands continue to dominate the Albanian market. Volkswagen leads with 16% of first-time registrations, followed by Mercedes Benz with 15.2%. Audi, BYD and Hyundai are also on the list of most preferred brands, reflecting a combination of traditional European brands and newer alternatives on the market.
