1 trillion lek deposits in Tirana alone - BoA: Decline in savings in all other regions. Possible signal of increased consumption

The amount of savings held by citizens, businesses, central and local governments, banks themselves, insurance companies and pension funds, savings and loan associations and other corporations has reached 1 trillion lekë for the first time in the Tirana region.
The latest data from the Bank of Albania shows that the value of deposits in the first quarter of 2026 increased by 12% compared to the previous quarter and 19% compared to the first quarter of last year.
This figure once again confirms Tirana as the leader in terms of money deposited in banks for the purpose of saving, and this is because the majority of businesses operate in the capital, while the majority of the population is also concentrated there. In the first quarter of the year, Tirana residents are the only ones with an increase in deposits, while citizens and businesses from other regions of the country are no longer saving money in banks as before, a signal of a possible increase in consumption.
Despite the decline in deposits in other regions, which ones are the ones that "compete" the capital the most?
Tirana holds half of the total deposits in the country, around 54%, followed by Durrës with almost 7% and Vlora with 5%. Meanwhile, the regions with the lowest value of savings in banks continue to be Lezha and Korça. According to official statistics, only 31 million lekë results to be the total amount of deposits in the region of Lezha and 62 million in that of Korça.
Also, Lezha had the largest drop in deposits from the last quarter of 2025 to the first quarter of 2026, around 12%, and Vlora also by 10%. This decrease in savings comes from both hard currency deposits and those in lek.
The imbalance is clear: the capital is collecting more and more money in the bank, while savings in other regions of the country appear to have taken a downward turn.
