In 2025, over 900 thousand tons of waste were managed in Albania, marking an increase of 4.5% compared to 2024. Each resident generated an average of 383 kilograms of waste during the year, or 23 kilograms more than the year before.

This year, the weight of urban waste remains dominant. Each resident produced an average of 341 kilograms of urban waste, compared to 322 kilograms in 2024, while non-urban waste increased from 38 to 42 kilograms per resident. In total, managed waste reached 900,782 tons, up from 862,241 tons the year before.

Regarding the treatment method, the panorama remains almost unchanged. 77% of waste was deposited in landfills, remaining the main management method, while 18% was recycled, almost at the same level as in 2024. Meanwhile, 90.3% of the population was covered by the waste collection service.

Data from the last three years show a continuous increase in managed waste. From 844 thousand tons in 2023, it increased to 862 thousand tons in 2024 and reached 900.8 thousand tons in 2025. In the same period, the average amount of waste per inhabitant increased from 351 kilograms to 360 kilograms, to reach 383 kilograms in 2025.

Figures show that the amount of waste in the country continues to increase, while recycling remains at the same levels. This means that landfilling continues to be the main form of waste treatment, despite the increase in its volume.
