"We aim for the average pension to reach 400 euros in 2029" - Rama and Ibrahimaj: Economic growth, more income for the elderly

Prime Minister Edi Rama and Minister of Economy and Innovation Delina Ibrahimaj presented the government's new measures to increase pensioner incomes.
During the meeting with the elderly, Rama emphasized that the positive performance of the Albanian economy is translating into concrete support for the third layer.
In addition to the target of 400 euros for the average pension of people with a full working career, the government aims for the average pension for those with partial years of insurance to reach 220 euros.
"The bonus has nothing to do with anything else, except for the attention we promised you that we will continue to give, not only to implement the new policy we decided and that you are already touching on for the annual increase in pensions, but also by standing by you when the economy gives us the opportunity. And there is, for example, a component that we had not foreseen in our revenues, which was the increase in revenues from the increase in oil prices. The price of oil increased and, of course, tax revenues also increased, all those that are included in the price for the state budget. You will receive the entire part that came from the increase in prices due to the war, the pensioners will receive."
In her speech, Minister Ibrahimaj stated that the economic growth of recent years has created the opportunity for benefits to be redistributed to citizens, especially pensioners.
"For many years we have talked about the desire and need to increase the income of retirees. Our goal has been for economic growth to not remain just a statistical figure, but to have a direct impact on the daily lives of retirees."
Ibrahimaj emphasized that the scheme will not only rely on the annual indexation of pensions, but also on the bonus policy, which has already become part of the social package. Together with the effect of pension indexation and bonuses, the additional support for pensioners during 2026 amounts to about 17 billion lek.
