Karakaçi inspects works on the Koman road: Strategic investment for the energy sector and tourism development in the area

The Qafë Qelë – Koman road segment, with a length of approximately 31 kilometers, underwent a complete reconstruction in order to guarantee faster access, but also increase safety parameters. Due to depreciation over the years, lack of maintenance and technical problems, the reconstruction of this segment was considered a priority investment to guarantee the safety of the operation of energy assets, but which also serves the community of the area.
The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enea Karakaçi, together with the director of the Albanian Road Authority, Ami Kozeli, inspected the works carried out so far, where the binder layer has been completed along the entire length of the segment.
"The works consisted of widening the axis, also improving road safety. Here we have protective elements of the slopes as well as the installation of guardrails that significantly improve road safety. Interventions have been made, especially in some dangerous curves, specifically we have managed to eliminate three dangerous curves, which constituted black spots known in technical language", explained Kozeli.
The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy focused on the importance of this investment both for the maintenance of the cascade, but also for the economic and tourist development of the area. With the planned intervention, the travel time will be reduced to approximately 40 minutes.
"It is an important road because it fulfills two elements. First, it connects the part of the segment that connects us from Vau i Dejës and leads to Puka to the Koman hydroelectric power plant, but on the other hand, it is also a road segment that has another important aspect because it connects the residents of these areas. It also has an important tourist element," said Karakaçi.
The reconstruction of this road will guarantee faster and safer access for personnel, vehicles and technical equipment to the Koman HPP and other facilities of the Drini Cascade. It also facilitates maintenance activities and contributes to the safety and continuity of operation of one of the most important assets of the Albanian energy system. The completion of this investment also brings direct benefits to the local community, by improving traffic safety.
