Business profits increase/ In the first three months, the budget collected 196 million euros in taxes

In the first three months of the year, businesses in the country have paid a significant amount of tax on accumulated profit, which is recorded at approximately 19.6 billion lek, or 196 million euros.
Official data from the Ministry of Finance show an increase of 22 million euros or about 12.7% compared to the same period a year ago, but compared to the planning made, it results in a decrease of 4.1%.
However, it appears that in March alone, the state budget collected 122 million euros from this item, marking an increase of 11.1% compared to March 2024.
If we analyze quarterly revenues for the last decade, the tax paid on business profits has had a progressive increase from year to year.
Thus, from 10.8 billion lek in 2016 to 19.6 billion lek in 2025, the growth is recorded at 81.5%.
This indicates an increase in consumption and turnover by businesses and the resulting profits and taxes paid thereon.
According to official data, total business turnover reached 931 billion lek during the period January-March 2026, marking an increase of 60.1 billion lek or 601 million euros compared to the first quarter of 2025. This development suggests an expansion of market demand, as well as an increase in activity in various sectors of the economy, including trade, services and production.
Currently, there are approximately 16,000 enterprises across the country that pay profit tax, as small businesses with a turnover of 0-14 million lek are exempt. The profit tax rate for taxpayers with annual income over 14 million lek is applied at 15% of taxable profit.
This year, a progressive profit tax rate of 15-23% has begun to be applied to the self-employed category, if they have fewer than three clients.
