The government "discharges" arrears - The stock is halved, the year ends with 58 million euros in debt

Arrears to businesses and citizens have been significantly reduced.
Referring to official data from the Ministry of Finance, the stock of arrears from around 12.7 billion lek in September 2025 has decreased to 5.8 billion lek or 58 million euros in December 2025.
This is the lowest figure in years regarding the stock of liabilities.
Of the total debt accumulated until December 2025, the central government accounts for 1.5 billion lek and the local government accounts for approximately 2.9 billion lek. What is noticeable is that the central government has significantly reduced the stock of liabilities compared to the end of September 2025 by 5.8 billion lek, while the local government has recorded a very slight increase in liabilities compared to September 2025.
As for the category of arrears, the largest share is occupied by those for public investments, given that throughout this year there have been a large number of construction sites opened to provide better services to citizens.
Specifically, investment obligations amount to around 1.6 billion lek, an item that has decreased at both levels of government, but it seems that the central government has discharged most of the accumulated obligations.
On the other hand, the stock of liabilities for court decisions for unfair dismissals or business complaints amounts to 712 million lek, and has suffered a significant decrease compared to September 2025, in which they were recorded at nearly 2 billion lek.
The "other" category accounts for approximately 873 million lek of total liabilities from 1 billion lek in September.
The stock of arrears fluctuates continuously from one quarter to the next depending on open public works, but the government's commitment and the obligation of local governments is to follow a repayment trend until they are completely zeroed.
