Karakaçi: Porto Romano Port Project will be reviewed after the failure of the second tender procedure

The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enea Karakaçi, announced that the second procedure for selecting the investor for the construction of the Porto Romano Port has not been completed successfully, as the winning company failed to secure the necessary financing for the implementation of the project.
During a media conference, Karakaçi explained that the economic operator had officially notified the Durrës Port Authority that it was unable to submit the requested financial agreement, arguing that the increase in project costs had made it difficult to secure funds.
The Minister stressed that the government remains committed to the realization of this strategic investment, considering the Port of Porto Romano a key link for the development of transport and logistics in the country. According to him, the project is of particular importance also within the framework of Corridor VIII, as well as for the interests of the NATO alliance in the region.
Karakaçi announced that various alternatives are being considered to move the project forward and that the responsible institutions are in continuous consultations with the consulting company Royal HaskoningDHV, which specializes in international port projects.
He assured that once the analysis of options is completed and a decision is made on the new implementation mechanism, the public will be informed about the next steps for the realization of the Port of Porto Romano.
