Businesses generated 1.4 billion euros more in turnover - Services, tourism and trade significantly increase enterprise income

Businesses in Albania have had positive activity during the first four months of the year. Official data from the Ministry of Finance shows that business turnover for the period January-April 2026 increased by 133 billion lek or 11% more than the same period in 2025, doubling compared to economic growth.
The increase in business turnover, according to the Ministry of Finance, was mainly supported by three sectors. Services, which recorded the highest growth, by 24.5%. This mainly indicates the expansion of economic activity in sectors related to tourism and other related activities. Construction also recorded a growth of 13.2%, followed by trade with a growth of 10.4%, as another sector with weight in the economy.
According to the Ministry, this performance is due to economic growth; further formalization of the economy, which means more complete reporting of declared turnover and higher domestic consumption, supported by increased income and employment.
The expansion of the number of businesses has also followed the same path. According to official data, by the end of April 2026, the total number of businesses had reached 144,940. While compared to a year earlier, there were 8,070 new businesses between January and April 2026.
In other words, the number of businesses has increased by 11% compared to the first four months of 2025.
The growth rate reflects the improvement of the business climate, increased entrepreneurial confidence and the expansion of economic activity in various sectors of the economy (services and transport).
The positive performance of the economy is related to several factors such as improved domestic consumption, administrative facilities for opening businesses, and increased interest in investments in certain sectors.
However, challenges remain. The sustainability of this growth will depend on geopolitical developments in the Middle East, which have spilled over into Albania, where businesses are facing high transportation costs and pressure on profits and investments due to the high increase in fuel prices.
