5.8 billion lek for the Elbasan bypass - ARRSH opens tenders for the first 2

With a limit fund of almost 5.8 billion lekë, the Albanian Road Authority has opened 2 tender procedures for the construction of the Tirana - Elbasan connecting road, with Corridor VIII. The segment, with a length of 4 km, is part of the Elbasan bypass. It starts without reaching the Bradashesh roundabout and ends near the former Metalurgjiku. This new segment aims to ease the traffic that is created at the entrances and exits of the Tirana - Elbasan highway, a very problematic segment.

Meanwhile, the tender documents underline the importance of building the Elbasan bypass along its entire length, as an alternative route that will divert heavy traffic outside the urban areas of this city, at a time when the existing ring road no longer meets the capacities and technical parameters to cope with the current flow.

In fact, the Elbasan bypass is an integral part of the Pan-European Corridor VIII, one of the main axes of regional and international transport. The construction of this segment enables the connection of the 2 parts of this corridor, which are being built, more specifically the Elbasan – Lekaj axis with Elbasan - Qafë Thanë. The proposed route of the road will be developed mainly in hilly and rural terrain, avoiding residential areas and aiming to improve the safety and efficiency of movement.

According to forecasts, the implementation of this bypass will reduce travel time, reduce noise and air pollution in the city, and increase road safety. This project has been included in the Priority Policy Document 2027–2029, in the list of investment projects with "mature" status, with a total cost of 240 million euros.
