Over 1 million foreigners in Albania during May/ Foreign visitors increased by 15.9%, led by those from Southern Europe

According to data published by the Institute of Statistics, during the month of May, over 1.88 million entries of Albanian and foreign citizens were registered in the Republic of Albania, marking an increase of 12.2% compared to the same month a year earlier.
In parallel, exits from Albanian territory have also increased. During May, around 1.8 million citizens left the country, an increase of 8.9% compared to May 2025. The data shows an intensification of border movements, both for tourist reasons and for personal or professional travel.
Of the total number of arrivals, around 736 thousand were Albanian citizens, marking an increase of 6.9% compared to May of last year. Meanwhile, arrivals of foreign citizens reached around 1.14 million, with a stronger increase of 15.9%, confirming the continued interest of foreign visitors in Albania.
Regarding the origin of foreign tourists, the majority are from Southern European countries, which contribute around 70% of the arrivals from Europe, while Western Europe accounts for around 12% of this flow. This shows that European markets continue to be the main source of visitors choosing Albania.
Exits from the country have also increased. During May, around 735 thousand exits of Albanian citizens were registered, with an increase of 3.6%, while exits of foreign citizens reached around 1 million, increasing by 12.9% compared to a year earlier.
If we look at the data for the first five months of the year, it turns out that around 3.7 million foreign citizens have entered Albania, marking an increase of 8.2%. In the same period, the arrivals of Albanian citizens have been around 3.3 million, with an increase of 8.7%.
The majority of foreign visitors continue to choose Albania for personal reasons. According to INSTAT, around 98% of foreign nationals' arrivals during May were for personal purposes, mainly including holidays, visits and individual trips. This indicator has increased by 16.4% compared to May 2025.
Meanwhile, entries for business and professional purposes have marked a decrease of 5.6%, indicating that the increase in flows during this period is mainly related to tourist and personal movements.
Overall, May statistics show another increase in the presence of foreign visitors in Albania, with the tourist season starting at a higher pace than a year ago.
