Tourist areas, modern water supply system - Over 40 million lek for the water supply in Palasa, Drimadhë and Dhërmi

The Regional Water Supply and Sewerage Company of Vlorë Sh.A. has announced the opening of two tender procedures. The projects relate to the supply of drinking water to the coastal areas of Palasa, Drimadhë and Dhërmi, as well as the creation of an integrated system for the collection and treatment of wastewater in the Drimadhë area.
The first tender concerns the study-design for the drinking water supply of the Palasë, Drimadhë and Dhërmi areas, Phase IV, with a limit fund of 20 million and 823 thousand lekës. The project aims to design the continuation of the water transmission line, after the completion of Phase III at the exit of the Llogara tunnel, as well as the distribution network for the beneficiary areas.
The project area includes the entire territory declared as a “Strategic Investment Area in Places of National Importance for Tourism Development”, including Palasa, Drimadha and Dhërmi. This project aims to guarantee a sustainable, safe and sufficient supply of drinking water, at a time when urban development and the significant increase in tourist flows have increased the needs for water resources and modern infrastructure, especially in the summer period, when these resources are at their minimum levels due to their karst nature.
According to the document at the Public Procurement Agency, the integration of the existing network with the new distribution network will be carried out; ensuring the appropriate pressures in the network, as well as assessing the current accumulation depots and the need for the construction of new reservoirs, as needs during the tourist season often exceed existing capacities.
Meanwhile, the Vlora Regional Water Supply and Sewerage Company has announced a second tender procedure for the study-design of the wastewater collection system in the Drimadha area and the construction of the wastewater treatment plant. The limit fund for this project is 19 million and 477 thousand lekë.
Rapid development has significantly increased pressure on the environment due to the lack of an integrated infrastructure for sewage and wastewater treatment. Currently, fragmented sewage networks exist in different parts of the area, which are not connected to a common treatment system. This situation increases the risk of pollution of marine and groundwater, especially during the summer season when the seasonal population multiplies.
The new project aims to create a unified sewage network that will collect wastewater from all developed and developing areas, transferring it to a wastewater treatment plant.
Through this investment, it is intended to improve hygiene and sanitary conditions and protect the natural ecosystems of the Riviera, as well as guaranteeing the supply of drinking water and protecting the environment in order to promote the long-term development of tourism and the local economy.
