Electric trains on the Tirana–Durrës–Rinas/Verdho line: The units will be provided by a private operator, which will also operate the railway

The provision and operation of passenger trains on the Tirana - Durrës - Rinas line will be carried out by a private operator, as Albanian Railways has announced the preliminary procedure for identifying potential companies that can provide this service.
The head of Albanian Railways, Ergys Verdho, reveals some of the details of the call for expressions of interest addressed to international companies and consortia with experience in operating railway transport.
Verdho also shares some details about the operation of the line, according to the preliminary study conducted.
These data may change, based on the recommendations that will be given by private operators in the sessions that will be organized at the end of July.
Interested companies have until July 26, 2026 to submit their expressions of interest, while the tender for the selection of the operator is expected to open in the fourth quarter of this year. The launch of the first passenger rail service on the rehabilitated line is expected at the end of 2027.
