Customs erases 505 million lek in unpaid duties - Amnesty Law/ 264 entities

So far, 264 entities have benefited from the forgiveness of customs duties that had remained unpaid until the end of 2014. According to data from the General Directorate of Customs, 505 million lekë have been written off.

For unpaid obligations until December 31, 2014, the automatic cancellation of the respective obligations, fines and late payment interest is foreseen.

For liabilities incurred during the period 2015–2019, entities can choose between two alternatives: payment of 50% of the principal by June 30, 2026, benefiting from the forgiveness of the remaining part of the liability and all fines and interest on arrears; or payment of 75% of the principal by December 31, 2026, benefiting from the forgiveness of the remaining 25% and all fines and interest on arrears.

For obligations for the period 2020–2024, fines and late fees are waived if the principal obligation is paid in full by December 31, 2026.

As part of this process, the customs administration will continue to record and process unpaid duties according to the relevant periods, creating the opportunity for entities to benefit from the cancellation or remission of part of the duties, fines and late payment interest. Customs branches will continue to record the beneficiary cases until December 31, 2026.

The implementation of this law aims to ease the financial burden on businesses, promote formalization, and create opportunities for the closure of arrears through the facilitation procedures defined by the legislation in force.
