In recent years, Albania has significantly increased tourism, managing to establish its name on the European and global tourist map. According to UN Tourism data, Albania is one of the busiest tourist destinations in the world.

The world's busiest tourist destinations are not always those with the highest number of total visitors, but those with the most tourists relative to the number of residents. In smaller countries, such as Albania and some other Balkan states, annual tourist arrivals can exceed the local population several times over.

According to the data, Albania registers almost 5 tourists per inhabitant, ranking sixth among the countries considered. This puts it ahead of well-known tourist destinations such as the Maldives, Bahamas, Seychelles and Barbados, which are known for their high influx of visitors thanks to their popularity and natural beauty. On the other hand, Albania also leaves behind countries in the region, such as Croatia and Montenegro.

Meanwhile, Andorra is the world's busiest tourist destination. Despite not having an airport, it has become a major tourist destination. Tourism accounts for about four-fifths of its economy, with the country registering about 51 tourists for every inhabitant.

Monaco ranks second, while Malta third, with 6.3 tourists per capita, placing it just ahead of Iceland, which registers 5.6 tourists per capita.

In the Caribbean region, the Bahamas leads with 4.7 tourists per capita, followed by Antigua and Barbuda with 3.5, while Barbados registers 2.5 tourists per capita. In the Indian Ocean, the Maldives and Seychelles host 3.2 and 2.8 tourists per capita, respectively.

The ranking is not limited to microstates and island nations. Portugal, Austria and Croatia each have populations in the millions, but still welcome more international tourists than residents each year. Portugal welcomes 2.7 tourists per capita, Austria 2.9, and Croatia 4 tourists per capita.

Greece is also on the list of countries with high tourist influx, registering 2.67 tourists per capita. At the bottom of the ranking of countries included in this analysis is Singapore, with about 2 tourists per capita.
