Sejko: The Albanian economy is expected to maintain solid growth rates

The Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, received today in an official meeting the new Resident Representative of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in Albania, Hannes Takacs, with whom he discussed economic developments and cooperation between the two institutions.
During the meeting, Sejko presented the performance of the Albanian economy, emphasizing that "according to the forecasts of the Bank of Albania, the Albanian economy is expected to continue growing at solid rates in the coming period."
The Governor underlined that "the prudent and consistent monetary policy pursued by the Bank of Albania has made a significant contribution to maintaining macroeconomic stability, creating favorable financial conditions for the sustainable development of the economy."
Speaking about the banking sector, he said that the system remains stable, with good indicators of capitalization, liquidity and profitability, while the non-performing loan ratio has dropped to 3.7%, the lowest historical level since 2008.
According to Sejko, "this result reflects the effects of structural reforms undertaken over the last decade, the improvement of the financial discipline of the banking industry, as well as the effectiveness of the regulatory and supervisory framework of the Bank of Albania."
The Governor also appreciated the cooperation with the EBRD on strategic projects, highlighting assistance in managing risks related to climate change, developing the money market according to international standards, aligning the regulatory framework with European Union standards, and implementing the WE Finance Code initiative, which aims to facilitate access to financing for women entrepreneurs and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.
For his part, the new EBRD Resident Representative, Hannes Takacs, reaffirmed the institution's commitment to continue supporting Albania, with a focus on strengthening business competitiveness, the transition to a green economy, digitalization and entrepreneurship development.
