Reconstruction of the electrical substation in Kinostudio - OSSH opens the competition, the investment aims to reduce power outages

The High Voltage Directorate OSSH sh.a has announced the procurement procedure for the reconstruction and strengthening of the Kinostudio electrical substation in Tirana. The project's limit fund is 549 million and 972 thousand lekë.
According to the document published by the Public Procurement Agency, the investment aims to transform the existing 35/20/6 kilovolt substation into a modern substation with a voltage level of 110/35/20 kilovolts, significantly increasing the electricity supply capacity for the capital.
The project foresees the installation of a new transformer with a capacity of 40 to 50 megavolt-amperes, as well as new equipment for control, protection and telecommunications. The works will be carried out using the existing substation premises, while the supply of energy to consumers will continue without interruption during the implementation of the project.
The substation will be equipped with advanced monitoring and communication systems. The project also includes the construction of a new 35 kilovolt cable line, over 2 kilometers long, from the Kinostudio substation to the Linza area. This investment comes as a response to the problems created over the years in the existing lines, which have been damaged and have become difficult to maintain, due to unauthorized constructions that have surrounded the high-voltage poles.
According to the document, the project will be implemented according to the latest technical standards. The investment will bring significant benefits to the Tirana energy network. These include increasing energy distribution capacities, improving the quality of supply for households and businesses, reducing technical losses in the network, and reducing power outages.
The document emphasizes that the need for this investment was made due to the rapid urban development of the capital, especially in the area of Bulevardi i Ri, northeast of Tirana and new residential areas. The current substation, built in the 1970s, no longer copes with the growing demand for electricity, despite the interventions carried out in 2021.
Meanwhile, the Kinostudio substation will be better connected to other Tirana substations and will increase security of supply in a significant part of the city.
