Spring marks an increase in tourism in Albania/ The entry of foreign tourists has increased by 10.8%

During the month of March, a significant improvement was observed in the tourism sector and in the entry of citizens into Albania. Specifically, during this month, around 1.28 million Albanian and foreign citizens entered the territory of the Republic of Albania, an increase of 11.7% compared to March 2025. This development is considered positive, as the first two months of the year had marked a slight decrease in entries.
In terms of composition, it turns out that during March, around 680 thousand Albanian citizens entered, with an increase of 12.5% compared to the same period a year ago. On the other hand, the number of foreign citizens who visited Albania reached around 609 thousand, marking an increase of 10.8%. This increase may also have been influenced by external factors, such as war situations in other regions, which may have oriented tourists towards alternative destinations such as Albania, increasingly perceived as a new and safe place for holidays.
If we analyze the distribution by region, it is noted that the majority of tourists come from Southern Europe, which accounts for about 80% of entries from the European continent, while Western Europe contributes about 7%.
Regarding the purpose of the visit, in 97% of cases, the entries of foreign citizens to Albania are for personal reasons, such as tourism, family visits or other non-professional activities. This indicator has marked an increase of 11.2% compared to March of last year. Meanwhile, entries for business and professional purposes have had a very slight increase of only 0.2%, indicating that tourism remains the main motive for movements to the country.
In a broader perspective, in the first quarter of 2026, about 3.5 million entries of Albanian and foreign citizens were recorded. Of these, foreigners account for about 1.67 million, with an increase of 3.2%. In parallel with the entries, exits from the territory of Albania have also increased. During March, about 1.28 million Albanian and foreign citizens have left the country, registering an increase of 8.5% compared to the same period a year earlier. This development reflects an increased dynamics of the movement of people and a general intensification of incoming and outgoing flows in the country.
