Energy storage comes into play - Solar power plants require storage capacities,

A new wave of developments in the energy sector is signaling a significant change in the way energy is produced and managed in our country, as some of the largest photovoltaic projects in the country are looking to integrate energy storage systems, reflecting a new trend in the market.

According to the Energy Regulatory Authority, applications for license modification have currently been filed by several companies, including “Erseka Solar Park 1”, “Erseka Solar Park 2”, as well as “SPV Blue 1” and “SPV Blue 2”. These companies are seeking to add a new element to their licenses: electricity storage units, without changing the installed capacity of the existing plants.

These are photovoltaic power plants with significant capacities, in some cases reaching up to 50 MW each, part of the largest private solar energy projects in the country.

This development signals a significant shift in the model for generating energy from renewable sources. Until now, most solar projects have focused solely on production, which results in generation being cut off at night. Energy storage aims to address this gap, allowing the energy produced during peak hours to be stored and used when demand is highest.

Meanwhile, the ERE Board has decided to initiate the procedure for modifying the license of each of the above companies.
