New pensions are calculated with an indexation coefficient of 6.4% - The decision benefits 40 thousand citizens who will be entitled to a pension from January 1, 2026.

Around 40,000 citizens who became eligible for pensions as of January 1, 2026, will have monthly income calculated with indexed coefficients.
The decision published in the Official Gazette and already in force, determines the approval of the indexation of the estimated base for 2024, with an index coefficient of 6.4%, calculated according to the criteria of the law in force.
The 6.4% index is applied for the calculation of the annual individual assessed base, achieved through contributions paid and their revaluations, carried out until 2024, and is applied for the purpose of calculating the initial monthly pension amount, with the date of birth of the right, from 1.1.2026 onwards.
The decision details that after applying the 2024 index, the estimated base for the purpose of calculating the initial monthly pension amount for those individuals whose right arose from January 1, 2026, cannot be higher than three times the minimum wage at the national level, for wages in the period from 1994 to 31.12.2001, as well as the maximum wage at the national level, determined according to the criteria of the 1993 law, "On social security in the Republic of Albania", as amended, for wages in the period from 2002 onwards.
The financial effects resulting from the implementation of this decision are related to the implementation of the pension determination formula and apply only to pensions that are determined by the date of birth of the right, from 1.1.2026 onwards, and are covered within the annual budget approved for the Social Security Institute.
This decision aims to improve the pension system by harmonizing the initial monthly amount with the contributions that individuals have paid during their working years.
Indexation will ensure that new pensions are in line with declared salaries and contributions paid, bringing a fair and transparent increase for beneficiaries.
This decision is expected to have an impact on increasing the purchasing power of new pensioners. Indexation, as a legal obligation, is part of the state's ongoing efforts to improve the social security system and ensure that every citizen benefits in accordance with their contributions.
