Up to 30 years in prison for intentional arsonists/ Minister Lamallari presents

During the summer, the Fire Service and beyond will be on heightened alert, conducting patrols and monitoring the territory together with other agencies, and temporary stations will be set up in tourist areas and high-risk areas.

On the eve of the summer season and the increased risk of fires, the Fire Protection and Rescue Service organized a coordination meeting with the leaders of firefighting structures from all 61 municipalities in the country, with the participation of the Minister of Internal Affairs, Besfort Lamallari.

" The Ministry of Internal Affairs has drafted a detailed plan of measures to prevent fires and strengthen operational capacities during the summer. This plan aims to minimize fire cases, increase timely response and protect life, property and the environment. Controls will be carried out in hotels, resorts, restaurants, beach bars and other risk subjects, to verify security measures and evacuation plans. There is no place for formality in this process. There is only room for responsibility ", emphasized Minister Lamallari.

Another focus of the minister's speech was the toughening of criminal measures against arsonists, following recent changes to the Criminal Code.

" Fires are not prevented only by the state. They are also prevented by community awareness, by the careful farmer, by the responsible tourist operator and by every citizen who understands that protecting the territory is a shared responsibility. I want to say it clearly: there will be zero tolerance towards intentional arson and towards anyone who violates the natural wealth and safety of our communities ," declared Lamallari, adding that in the most serious cases, sentences for arsonists can reach up to 30 years in prison.

According to Lamallari, currently around 170 firefighting vehicles operate in local structures, while 130 new vehicles are planned, as well as the construction of 4 new fire stations in Përrenjas, Mat, Patos and Mirditë. At the end of the activity, several employees of the Fire Protection and Rescue Service were awarded with certificates of appreciation.
