The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, which measures price increases according to the methodology of the 'European Statistical Agency', in May of this year was recorded at 3.3%. Meanwhile, inflation according to 'INSTAT' for the same period was fixed at 3%, touching the Bank of Albania's target.

Official data shows that the average inflation in Europe is estimated at 3.3%, which means that currently prices in our country have equaled the European average. Meanwhile, on the other hand, the countries with the highest price rate in Europe during March of this year are Romania with 9.7%, Kosovo with 6.8% and Bulgaria with 6.3%.

If we analyze the price increase by countries in the region, the figures show that Albania is positioned relatively well compared to some of its neighbors in the region, including Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia. But, on the other hand, our country has a higher inflation rate than some countries like Italy or Germany.

According to the figures, inflation in May appears higher than in April in almost all countries, due to the situation in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, if we talk about the annual change in groups, we see that the largest price increase was recorded in the group "Entertainment, sports and culture" with 7.3% followed by the groups "Alcoholic beverages and tobacco" with 4.8%, "Transport" with 4.2%, "Insurance and financial services" with 4.0%, "Personal care, social protection and various goods and services" with 3.9%, "Restaurants and accommodation services" with 3.4%, "Food and non-alcoholic beverages" with 3.3%, "Educational services" with 2.6%, "Furniture, household equipment and home maintenance" with 1.9%, "Health" with 1.5%, "Rent, water, electricity, gas and other fuels" with 1.3%, "Clothing and footwear" and "Information and communication" with 0.6% each.
