Revitalization of the Durrës coastline - ADF opens 833 million lek tender for the creation of recreational spaces
The Albanian Development Fund has opened the tender for investment in the functional and aesthetic improvement of the Durrës coastline, a project that aims to increase the tourist offer and urban regeneration of one of the most frequented areas of the country. The limit fund foreseen for this intervention is 833 million and 196 thousand lekë, while the project is part of the third phase of the program for investments in the infrastructure of markets, commercial and multifunctional spaces in model development areas.
According to the document at the Public Procurement Agency, the intervention will include the coastal segment that extends from the Dajlan Bridge to the Cavalry Building. This space combines housing, accommodation structures, businesses, services and public facilities, which during the summer season face high visitor flows.
The project includes the expansion of the existing beach, the creation of a linear green park along the sea line, the development of multifunctional public spaces and the integration of new recreational and sports infrastructure. The length of the intervention area is about 2.8 km, with an extension of the coast up to 100 meters towards the sea, creating new public spaces for residents and visitors.
Referring to the technical report, the area needs functional and aesthetic improvements. The project aims at a better organization of public space, the modernization of existing infrastructure and the creation of better quality conditions for residents, tourists and businesses. Meanwhile, the need to improve accessibility along the coastline is also evident. Currently, the area is connected to the main road network of the city, but during periods of high tourist influx, congestion is created at the entrance, at pedestrian crossings and in parking lots. For this reason, interventions are foreseen that will favor the movement of pedestrians and bicycles, as well as new solutions for parking management.
One of the main elements will be the construction of a linear coastal park, which will extend along the entire segment of the intervention. It will include green spaces with trees, rest areas, new promenades and the so-called "Green Coves", natural environments that will create a direct connection between the city and the sea.
The project also envisages areas dedicated to cultural activities, festivals, gastronomy, sports and entertainment, such as: outdoor cinema, amphitheater, sports fields, children's playgrounds, skate park, tourist centers, service facilities, as well as medical centers.
The project also envisages the construction of modular pavilions, which will be used for commercial activities, beach bars, restaurants, information points, rest areas and other services. The structure is designed to be flexible and adapt to the season and needs of the area. Benches, seats integrated with greenery, bicycle parking stations and other elements will also be built, aiming to make the area more functional, more accessible and aesthetically more attractive, creating a new urban identity for the most frequented coastal line.
