13 million euro investment for the modernization of the electricity network in Kamzë – Karakaci: 40% of the works have been completed

Works on the construction of the new electrical substation in Kamza have reached 40% completion, while the investment is expected to significantly improve the security and quality of electricity supply for thousands of subscribers in the area.
During a visit to the construction site, the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enea Karakaçi, described the project as one of the most important investments in the energy sector, emphasizing that it is being implemented thanks to the cooperation between the Albanian and German governments.
"This is a strategic project that goes beyond the construction of a new substation. It is part of a 30 million euro program that includes the digitalization of substations and the rehabilitation of 12 other substations in the country," Karakaçi said.
According to the minister, the 13 million euro investment will modernize the distribution network through the installation of new 20 kilovolt feeders, increasing the capacity and reliability of the system.
For his part, the administrator of the Electricity Distribution System Operator (OSHEE), Mentor Hima, announced that the new 120 kilovolt substation will replace the existing infrastructure, which has been in operation for about six decades.
"This investment will significantly increase the quality of energy supply for nearly 5,000 subscribers, while capacity will be expanded from 8 megawatts to 80 megawatts, ten times more than currently," said Hima.
He added that the works began in October 2025 and are expected to be completed in March 2027. In parallel with the construction of the substation, the second phase of the project is also underway, which foresees the installation of eight new feeders and the expansion of the low-voltage network.
Also present at the inspection was the German Ambassador to Tirana, Karl Bergner, who praised the cooperation between the two countries in the field of energy.
"It is time for this old substation to be replaced with a modern infrastructure, which will guarantee a more stable energy supply for citizens," Bergner declared.
The Ambassador also emphasized that joint investments in the energy sector, including the 400 kilovolt line with North Macedonia, will increase the stability of the grid and create greater opportunities for the export of electricity from Albania, in accordance with European Union standards.
