Hoxha in Sofia: Albania and Bulgaria deepen cooperation in energy, infrastructure and Corridor VIII

Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, held a bilateral meeting with his Bulgarian counterpart, Velislava Petrova, during his visit to the Bulgarian capital within the framework of the activities of the Bulgarian Presidency of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) for the period 2025–2026.
The meeting reaffirmed the strong relations between Albania and Bulgaria and the will to expand cooperation in strategic sectors. The discussions focused on energy, infrastructure, regional connectivity and the progress of projects of common importance.
In a post on the X network after the meeting, Hoxha emphasized that the parties agreed on the need to deepen political dialogue and strengthen economic cooperation.
Our discussions highlighted the importance of further deepening political dialogue and expanding cooperation in key sectors such as energy, infrastructure, and strategic connectivity.
An important part of the talks was dedicated to Corridor VIII, the project that aims to connect the Adriatic with the Black Sea through a modern road, rail and energy network.
We underlined the importance of Corridor VIII as a vital link between the Adriatic and Black Sea regions, with significant potential to increase trade, mobility and sustainable economic development throughout Southeastern Europe.
The two ministers also exchanged views on regional and international developments, reaffirming support for peace, security and European integration of the Western Balkans. Hoxha praised Bulgaria's continued support for Albania's accession process to the European Union.
Albania greatly appreciates Bulgaria's continued support for our EU accession process and its continued advocacy for a credible enlargement policy.
The parties also emphasized the role of national minorities as a bridge of cooperation and understanding between the two countries. Hoxha's visit to Sofia takes place within the framework of the Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the SEECP participating countries, where regional priorities for cooperation, connectivity and European integration are expected to be discussed.
