Albanian teenagers, more skilled in the digital world/ Eurostat data, men are more inclined towards programming
In 2025, girls aged 16–19 in the European Union showed higher levels of digital content creation skills than the general population average. The data comes from Eurostat’s survey on the use of information and communication technology (ICT) in households and by individuals, highlighting the growing role of girls in the digital world.
Meanwhile, in Albania, according to data, it turns out that men have a higher inclination towards programming compared to girls. However, this does not mean that girls are less active in technology; on the contrary, they differ in other areas of digital use.
Young people today are increasingly attracted to coding languages and various applications, gaining access to programs that require advanced digital skills from an early age. For Albania, data from the last three months of the survey show that about 18.2% of this age group are regular internet users. In terms of programming, about 20% of boys have written code at least once, while this figure for girls reaches about 16%.
Although Albanian teenage girls are represented at a lower percentage than men, they rank among the top countries in Europe for coding, taking fifth place and reflecting considerable potential. At the European level, Swedish girls lead, who are noted for their advanced skills in programming and the use of technology.
Overall, girls in the EU outperform the general population in many digital activities, with differences ranging from 28.5 percentage points in creating files that combine different elements (such as text, images or graphics), to 0.4 percentage points in advanced spreadsheet use.
In particular, there are four areas where girls outperform their male peers: editing photos, videos, and audio; using word processing programs; creating integrated files with different elements; and copying or moving files between devices, folders, or cloud spaces. These indicators prove that, despite differences in programming, girls are playing an increasingly important role in the digital ecosystem.
