Cultural heritage, over 219 thousand visitors in 4 months - Gjirokastra Castle leads the number of domestic and foreign tourists

Interest in Albanian cultural heritage continues to increase significantly during 2026. The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Blendi Gonxhja, reports the figures during the period January-April 2026, where a full 219,423 domestic and foreign visitors have chosen to visit cultural heritage sites in the country.
Compared to the same period in 2023, the number of visitors has increased by 114%, while revenues from these sites have increased by 142%. These figures show a growing interest in the history, culture and archaeological treasures of Albania, both from foreign tourists and domestic visitors.
The growing interest in historical monuments, museums and archaeological parks proves that Albania is becoming an increasingly popular destination for tourists seeking to learn about the country's culture, history and traditions. According to data published by Minister Gonxha, among the most visited sites is the Gjirokastra Castle with 34,186 visitors. It is followed by the Shkodra Archaeological Park with 33,273 visitors, while the Butrint National Park has attracted 32,286 visitors during the first four months of the year.
The list of the five most visited sites also includes the Gjergj Kastrioti Museum in Kruja with 31,480 visitors, as well as the Apoloni Archaeological Park with 20,336 visitors.
This growth is a positive indicator for the development of cultural tourism in Albania and for the promotion of the country's historical and cultural values in the international arena.
