Energy, second interconnection line with Greece - Minister Karakaçi

The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enea Karakaçi, participated in the Energy Conference, organized by the prestigious Financial Times, in Athens. According to the Minister, it was a very good opportunity to discuss the topics of the day in the energy sector, but also what Albania is doing and what Albania has done throughout all these years.

Certainly one of the main elements is the interconnectivity of all neighboring countries, but I had the importance of emphasizing how well positioned Albania is with transmission interconnections with all neighboring countries in the region, but also with the line that is already in the over 90% stages of works with North Macedonia. I presented the projects we have regarding the interconnection line with Italy.

I touched on an important topic regarding the strategic partnership with the United States of America and the two agreements signed two weeks ago, which transform Vlora into a gravitational center for the entire region in terms of natural gas transmission. Given that Albania produces 100% of its energy from renewable sources, it has the ability to absorb natural gas capacities without compromising any of the European Union targets and without compromising any of our renewable energy targets.

During the summit proceedings, Karakaçi held a meeting with his Greek counterpart, with whom he discussed cooperation between the two countries in this sector.

I shared with him the importance of the new interconnector that the two countries plan to build, connecting Albania and Greece with a second interconnection line. In the context of renewable energy developments in Albania, this second transmission line takes on a very special importance.

I again extended an invitation to the Greek Minister of Energy to cooperate also in terms of the Albanian Electricity Exchange. The Albanian Electricity Exchange has already undergone a very significant development in terms of energy volumes. I invited the Greek Minister to continue the cooperation regarding the two electricity exchanges, between the Albanian Energy Exchange and the Greek Energy Exchange, which have had a very good cooperation in terms of their operation throughout these years.

According to Karakaci, the Albanian energy exchange has undergone a great development, with volumes increasing in recent years, and one of the main elements has been the cooperation with the Greek side to provide security in operation, but also in the full efficiency of transactions.
