Food safety, Rama: Albania towards a new quality system for the European market

From Lidion Kulla

Food safety and approximation with European Union standards have been placed at the center of the Albanian government's agenda, as part of the European integration process and guaranteeing quality for domestic consumers.

In the podcast "Flasim", Prime Minister Rama summarized the meeting with food industry operators, where he emphasized that the main challenge remains the construction of a functional system that guarantees control, quality production and reliability in every link of the food chain, from the production of raw materials to processed and packaged products.

According to the head of government, the process should not be seen simply as a formal fulfillment of the European Union's requirements, but as a necessity for public health, economic development and Albania's success in the European common market.

The reforms aim to ensure that Albanian products are not only safe for consumption, but also competitive and acceptable in EU markets after the country's accession. The government is committed to legal harmonization with European standards, but also to their practical implementation on the ground, through close cooperation with farmers, producers, processors and the entire agri-food industry.

This process is considered one of the most important challenges on Albania's path to membership in the European Union by 2030, aiming not only at consumer protection, but also at creating a stronger and more integrated food economy in line with European standards.
