Albania welcomed over 1.1 million visitors during May - Minister Gonxha: Lithuania and Denmark lead the growth of tourists

Albania continues to strengthen its position as one of the fastest growing tourist destinations in the region. The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Blendi Gonxhja, announced that during the month of May 2026, our country welcomed 1 million 143 thousand 595 foreign visitors, an increase of 16% compared to the same period last year.
According to Minister Gonxhja, this positive performance is related to the increase in public and private investments in tourism infrastructure, the expansion of accommodation capacities, the continuous promotion of Albanian destinations and the rich calendar of activities throughout the year. Also, the strengthening of Albania's image in the international arena has influenced the increase in the interest of foreign tourists.
Meanwhile, significant increases have been recorded with visitors from important European and intercontinental markets, while Kosovo with 321,714 visitors and Italy with 120,344 visitors, continue to make the largest contribution to the total number of visitors. Also, the growing interest from the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom and other countries with high potential confirms Albania's attractiveness for tourists seeking authentic experiences, culture, nature and hospitality, emphasizes Minister Blendi Gonxhja.
On the other hand, the highest increase in visitors during May was recorded by Lithuania with 273%, followed by Denmark with 253%, while significant increases were also recorded by Finland with 83%, Poland with 80%, Ireland with 63% and Israel with 48%.
Similarly, the number of visitors from the United States of America and Canada increased by 37% each, while from the United Kingdom by 32%. Increases were also recorded from Sweden by 26%, the Czech Republic by 25%, Belgium and Italy by 24% each, France by 21%, Portugal by 19% and Kosovo by 15%.
With over 1.1 million foreign visitors during the month of May alone, Albania confirms the positive trend of tourism growth and continues to welcome tourists from all over the world.
