The Centralized Purchasing Operator has announced the opening of the competition for urban waste management in the country's coastal areas. According to the document at the Public Procurement Agency, the aim is to guarantee the cleaning and maintenance of the coastline during the 2026 tourist season, including a limit fund of 207 million and 588 thousand lek.

This procedure includes a large number of municipalities located along the coastline and areas with a high influx of visitors, specifically Shkodër, Lezhë, Durrës, Kavajë, Rrogozhinë, Divjakë, Fier, Vlorë, Himarë, Sarandë and Pogradec, divided into two lots.

The first lot includes the municipalities of Shkodër, Lezhë, Durrës, Kavajë and Pogradec, with a limit fund of over 108 million lek. While the second lot includes the municipalities of Rrogozhina, Divjakë, Fier, Vlorë, Himara and Saranda, with a limit fund of around 99 million lek excluding VAT.

According to the document, this service consists of the collection, removal and transportation of waste deposited in containers by citizens, businesses and cleaning operators operating in these areas, thus contributing to improving the urban image of tourist areas.

Also, operators will be required to disinfect containers after each emptying process, to guarantee high hygiene and sanitation standards.

Another important component of this service is the maintenance and cleaning of public spaces, including sidewalks, beach promenades and main squares. Employees engaged in this process will have to constantly clean these areas from debris, created as a result of the daily activity of citizens and tourists.

The technical specifications clearly state that overflowing containers or waste scattered in the surrounding areas will not be tolerated. The contract also provides for punitive measures and penalties for any violation of the specified conditions, including cases where environmental pollution occurs during the transport of waste.

Referring to the document, this is an important intervention that will improve waste management in the country's tourist areas, especially on the eve of the summer season, where the influx of visitors significantly increases the need for efficient services and high standards of cleanliness.
