Rama in Cërrik: Developing vocational education and agriculture through modern technology

A new model of modern agricultural development combined with vocational education is taking shape in Cërrik, through the experimental farm of the “Mihal Shahini” vocational school, a project implemented by MASHAV (Israeli Development Agency), which aims to serve as an education, training and demonstration platform for Albanian students and farmers. The project represents a significant investment in vocational education and a concrete step towards the development of a sustainable, innovative and competitive agriculture through the use of modern technologies.
The farm is conceived as a didactic base for the vocational school, creating opportunities for students and farmers to learn and apply in practice contemporary methods of agricultural cultivation and management. It offers modern greenhouses equipped with intelligent climate control and ventilation systems, centralized irrigation systems, hydroponic cultivation, dedicated livestock facilities, modern agricultural equipment, as well as special spaces for lectures and training with local and international experts.
This investment also represents another step towards modernizing the agricultural infrastructure in the country and promoting a more efficient and productive agriculture, while also marking a new chapter in cooperation and development between Albania and Israel.
Today, this new farm was visited by Prime Minister Edi Rama, who was closely acquainted with the investment carried out in collaboration with MASHAV - the Israeli Development Agency, with the support of the Israeli Embassy in Albania and in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Prime Minister Edi Rama: I want to start by thanking the entire teaching staff of the school, for their dedication and contribution, but also for this hospitality, where it is with great pleasure that I am together with a precious friend of Albania and a tireless worker in making experiences like today's possible, the Ambassador of Israel, and together with her and a group of well-wishers, among whom are the three protagonists of this program that the Ambassador presented to me a little while ago, who have come here to share with the teachers and students their experience, their knowledge and what they have learned in a country that has started the rise of agriculture in the desert and without water.
Today it is a place that is an exemplary reflection of what the human mind can do when it finds itself in the situation of creating new ways and finding paths to survive unfavorable geographical conditions.
While we have everything we need, what we have been missing for a long time has been a focus on innovation and the best experiences. That is why I am very grateful to our Israeli friends for this contribution here and it looks like a garden of a house, but in fact it is the heart of an experimental farm, where as the director and one of the students showed us, experiments with different cultures are carried out here, while on the other side there are also livestock with which the students work together with the teachers.
Today, it happened by chance that before I came here, I was with the famous former rector of the BOKU University of Vienna, which is the University of Agriculture, which is the University of Rural Development and Natural Resources, among the most famous in Europe, and with which our Agricultural University has entered into a strategic partnership with the aim that by the end of this decade we will have a comparison of programs with Vienna and that the next decade will be a decade where all our students can receive diplomas equivalent to those of the BOKU University of Vienna.
Even today, the professor gave me detailed information on the progress of the very meaningful reform that is being carried out at that university and on the other steps that need to be taken, but the reason why I brought this up here is that I saw with great pleasure that the numbers of interest in becoming part of the Agricultural University of Tirana from young women and men have increased significantly. This also comes as a result of the fact that when the girls and boys of this country see an opportunity to be educated and to achieve quality knowledge, they do not leave that opportunity unexploited, and all those prejudices and all those stereotypes created for years regarding the village, agriculture, and the Agricultural University fall like "sand castles" when a real opportunity appears and when, as a result of a great deal of work done in these years, step by step with difficulty without having many financial resources available to begin with, the conditions are created that after this, things take a different direction.
This is, I believe, the reason why we have every reason to be optimistic about this program, this school, and this municipality that has taken courageous and admirable steps towards utilizing what technology offers today in the function of sustainable development, in the function of reducing costs, in the function of increasing the quality of the environment and its cleanliness, and so on.
So I am very pleased with this positive development in terms of cooperation in terms of the village, in terms of land, in terms of water resources and quality agriculture, and I am confident that this is just one step. Meanwhile, as the minister said, we are eagerly awaiting the signing of an important agreement with the government of the State of Israel to open another chapter in this relationship, which is very important for us to gain as much knowledge and transfer to Albania as much experience as possible from what has made that country an example, a pioneer in innovation in all fields, including agriculture, where as I said, nothing has been in favor of successful development, in terms of what the state has had at its disposal, a desert without water.
Many thanks to everyone and finally, thank you to the friends who have come here in honor of the invitation extended by the ambassador from other countries. I hope that one day we will return and see other beautiful things done thanks to this cooperation and other collaborations that the school has and compliments to the principal and thank you to everyone!
